Patty Drexler is a familiar face at our SE campus. She is a Financial Aid Administrator for Phagans SE, and is very much a part of our students academic life by helping them negotiate the task of funding their education. Patty is a champion for their success, and cares about each and every student past and present. Just a couple quick questions so you can learn a little more about Miss Drexler.

On Thursday, July 23, Phagans will hold a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association at our NE location. We will provide haircuts and manicures for a minimum donation of $5 throughout the day with all proceeds to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The salon will open for extended hours – 5 a.m. to midnight. Please save the date on your calendar and plan to join us for this great cause!

On Saturday, May 9, Phagans students set up at Clackamas Town Center for the Streaks for Stroke event, organized by Providence to highlight stroke awareness. For the third year in a row, students put colored streaks in people’s hair to help raise awareness for stroke prevention methods.

Phagans School of Hair Design gave $14,000 in scholarship funds to four students at the Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center in Clackamas on Monday, May 18.
Eligible students needed to be seniors with a 2015 graduation in the Sabin-Schellenberg cosmetology program. To apply, students also needed to get a reference from a cosmetology instructor, then write a one page essay on, “Why I Want To Be A Cosmetologist.”
Phagans Owner, Barbara Climaldi, read each essay and picked the winners: Holly Richardson, $5,000; Shemika Claborne, $3,000; Diana Hernandez, $3,000; and Katelyn Kiker, $3,000. Phagans has been awarding scholarships with Sabin-Schellenberg students for 10 years.

Since Phagans School of Hair Design has provided, the hair, make-up, and styling for the Portland Rose Festival Princesses during the Queen’s coronation for several years, we thought we catch up with 2014 Queen Emma Audrey Waibel for a quick Q&A on her experiences. This year’s coronation is Saturday, June 6, 2015.
How did you get involved with the Rose Festival?
I attended the 2012 Queen’s Coronation and then also went to one of the metro coronations and was inspired by the confidence and civic involvement of the girls who applied.
What was it like being crowned Rose Festival Queen?
It’s incredibly overwhelming being surrounded by close friends and family and also being recognized as a leader by the city of Portland.

Students from Phagans School of Hair Design will be styling the runway show models at the Style at the Street event the evening of Tuesday, August 12. The event is part of the 2014 NW Natural Street of Dreams. It will feature gourmet treats, wine, and a DJ. The fashion show will feature looks from a variety of Clackamas Town Center retailers.
All proceeds will benefit the Home Builders Foundation, which will be renovating the domestic violence shelter for Clackamas Women’s Services. For more information and tickets, go to the Street of Dreams website.
