Phagans School of Hair Design gave $14,000 in scholarship funds to four students at the Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center in Clackamas on Monday, May 18.
Eligible students needed to be seniors with a 2015 graduation in the Sabin-Schellenberg cosmetology program. To apply, students also needed to get a reference from a cosmetology instructor, then write a one page essay on, “Why I Want To Be A Cosmetologist.”
Phagans Owner, Barbara Climaldi, read each essay and picked the winners: Holly Richardson, $5,000; Shemika Claborne, $3,000; Diana Hernandez, $3,000; and Katelyn Kiker, $3,000. Phagans has been awarding scholarships with Sabin-Schellenberg students for 10 years.

We are very proud and honored to announce that Phagans School of Hair Design has been invited to do the hair and make-up for the Rose Festival Princesses, for the coronation of the Queen, on Saturday June 8, 2013. This is the third year our students have been styling the Rose Festival Court.

It’s amazing to me that we get to contribute to our students’ success and that this small contribution is reflected in our school’s success.

To our students. staff and customers of our Phagans Clackamas Campus:
As most of you know a great tragedy occurred here Tuesday, Dec. 11. It is hard to imagine that these things can happen. To help keep our students, staff and customers safe we had to lock down our campus during the shooting and for a couple of hours afterwards. It was a frightening time and I’m thankful everyone in our Phagans family remained safe.
We are truly sorry for the families and friends of the victims and will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
We will be closed Thursday and are working with Mall officials to coordinate a time to reopen. Please check our Facebook page for updates: http://www.facebook.com/phaganspdx
We remain committed to our goals this holiday season – collecting toy donations …

Diane Mitchell always went above and beyond. She never missed student graduations and supplied goodie bags for the graduates. More importantly, she never let us down.

Program director Patrick Abernethy, who has been an instructor with Phagans since 2011, has developed the program so students can both gain an understanding and love of sculpting hair and get satisfaction from performing quality services for clients.
Abernethy says both creative and technical personalities will thrive in the art of Barbering. The class will be 1,350 clock hours and will take students roughly 16 months to complete. A new class starts every 12 weeks.
“I foresee a well-rounded program that educates students in the classic art of barbering as well as the most current, cutting-edge techniques – a program that truly infuses trend with tradition,” Abernethy says.

It was an exciting December for us, made even more so because during the entire month we held our Second Annual Beauty Drive.
Throughout the month, any client who donated a new, unwrapped toy at either the Lloyd Center or Clackamas Town Center Phagans location saved 50% on their salon services. Clients who donate will also be entered into a drawing for a holiday gift bag filled with products from Joico, which sponsored the event.
In the end Portland firefighters from Station 13 had to tote away 12 huge bags of toys for donation to their Toy and Joy program. Each year, the Toy and Joy program ensures that more than 12,000 children in the Portland area are not forgotten by Santa.
