Lather, rinse, repeat. We’re all used to these simple instructions for washing our hair. Whether you’re in the shower or at the salon, a bubbly shampoo and fragrant-smelling conditioner can do wonders for your spirit and your style. But if that’s the case, why are dry shampoos cropping up on shelves and in salons today?
Dry shampoos – oil-, sweat-, and odor-absorbing products for you hair – are not new to the industry. They’ve been used stylishly all around the world – think centuries of powdered clay sprinkled on heads across Asia and powdered, piled-high hairdos on 18th century French women.
With today’s easy access to high-quality shampoos and plenty of warm water, why would we need dry shampoo? Here are a few reasons why you should consider incorporating dry shampoo into your hair care regimen:
Convenience: You’re running from morning till night, busy with the demands of your life. Whether you’re in school preparing for your dream career (like at Phagans School of Hair Design) or you’re busy balancing a job and family, chances are you could use a little time off. Washing, drying, and styling your hair every day takes time, but with a spritz or shake of dry shampoo, you can extend the time between wet washing. The dry shampoo absorbs oil and adds volume, allowing you to finger style and go, saving your time and sanity. It is also great when you’re traveling, so you have more time to see the sights and can spend less time on your style.
Care: Wet washing and heat styling take a toll on your tresses. Taking a little time off between shampoos can help preserve the health of your hair, making it look and feel more luxurious all year long. But if your hair gets oily and flat and your scalp gets itchy between washings, you’re less likely to take the time off. Using a dry shampoo daily between wet washings will plump up your hair, dry excess oil, and help your hair feel fresh for several days. And a bonus is that most dry shampoos have a pleasant scent to keep you smelling fresh too.
Coif: If you’re heading out for a fancy occasion like a wedding or prom, you may want to wear your hair in a special updo. Many stylists recommend that you have slightly “dirty” hair when you put your hair up because it is easier to work with and holds better. To get just the right look and hold, use dry shampoo on 1- or 2-day old hair. The dry shampoo will, of course, absorb extra oil, but it also provides extra volume and “tooth” to your hair that helps your updo stay looking perfect all night long.
