Dry Oil Lotion for the Dry Months of Summer
Dry body oil is a lightweight moisturizing oil that can help soften skin and reduce moisture loss. It is often applied to slightly damp skin after bathing to help lock in moisture. Formulas vary and may contain oils such as jojoba or argan oil, so choose a product that works well for your skin type and sensitivity.
Dry body oil should not replace sunscreen unless the product is specifically labeled for sun protection. For time outdoors, use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
In the Pacific Northwest, we wait all year for the summer sun to come out and shine. After months of grey, rainy skies, we all long for days spent playing outdoors. But whether you’re kayaking on a lake, hiking on Mt. Hood, eating alfresco at your favorite restaurant or enjoying an outdoor concert, your skin can still feel the effects. Exposure to summer sun and the elements can leave skin feeling dry or irritated.
A dry body oil is one option for adding moisture to your summer skincare routine.
Dry body oils are lightweight moisturizing products that may come in sprays or other formulas. Depending on the product, they may contain ingredients such as jojoba, argan, or other plant-based oils. Because formulas vary, look for one that suits your skin type and avoid heavily fragranced products if your skin is sensitive.
Try applying dry body oil to slightly damp skin after a shower or bath. Applying moisturizer while the skin is still damp can help trap water in the skin and reduce dryness.
