<h2>Oil Is Your Friend</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For a long time, we thought that putting oil on our faces was a beauty no-no. While certain oils are bad for the skin, like certain oils are bad to eat, there are others that have </span><a href="https://www.everydayhealth.com/beauty-pictures/oils-your-skin-will-love.aspx#08"><span style="font-weight: 400;">massive benefits</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Examples of good oils are argan oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil, and coconut oil. And these oils don’t only make your skin glow. They’re full of vitamins and minerals and can treat a range of common problems, from general dry skin and eczema to acne prone skin and fine lines.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-667" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1.jpg" alt="Woman with face mask and cucumbers." width="527" height="352" srcset="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1.jpg 1000w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1-960x640.jpg 960w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1-800x534.jpg 800w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_459356437-1-525x350.jpg 525w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px" /></a></p>
<h2>Put a Mask on It</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Face masks are a classic staple when it comes to pampering yourself. There’s no reason why you should reserve masks for Sundays or a special trip to the spa. Sure, there are plenty of face masks on the market, but there are TONS of face masks you can make right in </span><a href="http://www.stylecraze.com/articles/masks-for-glowing-skin/#gref"><span style="font-weight: 400;">your own kitchen!</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> For that “lit from within” look, try making masks from strawberries, oatmeal, cucumbers, avocados, bananas, yogurt, and oranges. If you’re not into DIY-ing, stop by our </span><a href="http://www.phagans.com/portland-hair-salons/skin-care/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">student salon and spa</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> where one of our talented students can treat you to a relaxing facial under the supervision of licensed professionals.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_425986696-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-668" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_425986696-1.jpg" alt="Rose petals in water held by two hands." width="527" height="352" /></a></p>
<h2>Stop and Smell the Roses</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rose-infused products are all the rage in the skin care world because of the </span><a href="http://www.organicauthority.com/delicious-beauty/7-natural-beauty-benefits-of-roses.html"><span style="font-weight: 400;">natural benefits </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">of rose petals. Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that leave your skin refreshed and hydrated. It also tones your skin and helps maintain its pH balance. When you feel tired in the middle of the day, spritz some rose water on your face for an instant refresh. Circling back to those trusty oils, rosehip oil can lighten scars and blemishes, tighten pores, reduce dark circles, and even out your skin tone. This makes for more glowing, youthful, and supple skin.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-669" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1.jpg" alt="Avocado toast sprinkled with seasoning." width="527" height="352" srcset="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1.jpg 1000w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1-960x640.jpg 960w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1-800x534.jpg 800w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_536564173-1-525x350.jpg 525w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px" /></a></p>
<h2>Relax and Enjoy that Avocado Toast</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Avocados are trendy for a good reason. This tasty, green superfood is your </span><a href="https://www.curejoy.com/content/benefits-of-avocado-for-skin/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">skin’s best friend.</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Avocados are rich in nutrients like A, B, C, and E vitamins and minerals like potassium, calcium, and phosphorus. Studies have shown that eating avocados can result in various skin benefits. These include increased moisture levels, wrinkle reduction, UV protection, acne prevention, psoriasis treatment and more.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-670" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1.jpg" alt="Fish oil supplements in the shape of a fish." width="527" height="352" srcset="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1.jpg 1000w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1-960x640.jpg 960w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1-800x534.jpg 800w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/shutterstock_526305043-1-525x350.jpg 525w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px" /></a></p>
<h2>Try Some Supplements</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Why not add an extra boost of nutrition to your morning routine? Taking </span><a href="https://helloglow.co/keep-your-skin-glowing-with-11-essential-beauty-supplements/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">daily supplements</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is a great way to improve the health and quality of your skin. Fish oil has omega-3 fatty acids that help with collagen production and fill in fine lines, reduce rosacea and eczema, and regulate moisture balance for healthy, glowing skin. When ingested, Vitamin A reduces sebum production and maintains skin’s protective tissue. It’s also useful for acne, psoriasis, and eczema. We all know that Vitamin C fights off the common cold. Its antioxidants are also great for your skin. Vitamin C supplements protect your skin from free radicals, build collagen, support cell strength, and fight against dullness. </span></p>

That’s why the steps to becoming a student at Phagans is designed to give you all the information you need to make the right decision. Once you’ve gone through the steps to enrolling, you can be ecstatic about your future!</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1725" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/shutterstock_567539029-e1512664787835.jpg" alt="beauty school student learning from instructor" width="500" height="334" srcset="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/shutterstock_567539029-e1512664787835.jpg 500w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/shutterstock_567539029-e1512664787835-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></p>
<ol>
<li>
<h2>Schedule a Tour</h2>
<p>The first step to becoming a beauty school student at Phagans is to schedule a <a href="http://www.phagans.com/contact/request-enrollment-information/">tour</a> of the school. You can do this <a href="http://www.phagans.com/contact/request-enrollment-information/">online</a> or by calling <a href="tel:5038580469">503-858-0469</a> to set up a tour. If you fill out the form on our website, a career planner will contact you to set up a time for a tour. Get the ball rolling by setting up your tour. We bet you’ll love it!</li>
<li>
<h2>Take Your Tour</h2>
<p>When you come in for your tour the career planner can answer any questions you may have. They can give you the details on each <a href="http://www.phagans.com/courses/">program</a>, how long it takes, and what you’ll need to do to become licensed. You can walk around the campus and see where you’ll be studying and working. The career planner will introduce you to instructors, other students, and maybe even the owner. During your tour you’ll be able to see what the culture of Phagans is like and if it’s a place where you think you could learn and grow.</li>
<li>
<h2>Planning</h2>
<p>Most, if not all, of our students have other things going in life while they are going to beauty school. Work and family are a couple common examples. When you come in for your tour our career planner can help you build a personalized plan. The goal is to help you find a way to achieve your goals of <a href="http://www.phagans.com/how-to-enroll/">building a new career</a> on a schedule that works for you!</li>
<li>
<h2>Money Talk</h2>
<p>Another thing that a career planner can help you figure out is how to pay for school. <a href="http://www.phagans.com/enrollment/managing-the-cost-of-education/">Financial aid</a> is available to those who qualify, and a career planner can help you learn more about those options. They can show you where to apply for financial aid and explain the steps to make it easy. Paying for school is one of the biggest challenges that keeps aspiring beauty professionals from following their passion. Don’t fall into that trap. Let us help you find out how to pay for your education. We’ll show you that it’s totally possible!</li>
</ol>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1728" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/shutterstock_313680335-e1512665096842.jpg" alt="beauty school students styling the hair of a client" width="500" height="334" srcset="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/shutterstock_313680335-e1512665096842.jpg 500w, https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/shutterstock_313680335-e1512665096842-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></p>
<h2>Still Unsure?</h2>
<p>Worried about being sold to or pressured into something? Don’t stress it. Our hope is to help people who really <i>want</i> to join the ranks of beauty professionals. For those who are ready to start building this kind of career, we are here to help them make plans to achieve that goal. If you’re on the fence, this can be a great way to help you make a better decision. If you decide that the path to a beauty career isn’t for you, that’s great. We’re happy that we can be there to help you make that choice. Your tour of Phagans will be all fun, no pressure.</p>
<h2>Ready to Begin?</h2>
<p>If you have been thinking about a career in the beauty industry <a href="http://www.phagans.com/contact/request-enrollment-information/">schedule a tour</a> of your Phagans campus today. We can help you get started on your journey to a career that you can love! We can’t wait to meet you.</p>

<h2>Esthetics is All About the Skin</h2>
<p>Where cosmetology has a lot of focus on hair, esthetics is almost entirely focused on the skin. The job of an esthetician is important because treating your skin well can make you feel and look beautiful. Helping you achieve that special glow is basically the job description of an esthetician. A certified esthetician knows all the tricks to make your skin clear and radiant.</p>
<p>You’re probably wondering what some of those tricks are, right? Here’s a few services that you can get from a certified esthetician.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Facials &#8211; </strong>Ever had a facial to help clear up your skin? If you haven’t tried it yet, you should. There is a wide variety of facials that you can get to help with different things. From cleansing to moisturizing and everything in between, there’s a facial for that! Estheticians can even be trained to analyze your skin and match you with a facial that will help you the most.</li>
<li><strong>Waxing &#8211; </strong>Estheticians can also be experts at removing unwanted hair. Eyebrows, arms, and legs; estheticians wax it all.</li>
<li><strong>Microdermabrasion &#8211; </strong>A microdermabrasion treatment is used to treat damaged skin. It can be used to help with scarring, skin discoloration, or sun damage. It’s a unique process that removes old, dead, or damaged skin cells to unveil a new beautiful layer. The effects of this kind of treatment are amazing!</li>
<li><strong>Makeup &#8211; </strong>Yep. Makeup is another specialty of certified estheticians. If you love doing makeup, esthetics might be a good fit for you. You can also learn a lot more about makeup artistry in an esthetics program than you can from watching videos online. You can learn details as specific as what types of makeup to use with certain skin types.</li>
</ul>
<p>These are only a few examples of things that certified estheticians can learn and do. You can see the full range of esthetics and skin care services in one of Phagan’s salons. <a href="http://www.phagans.com/contact/schedule-hair-appointment/">Schedule an appointment</a> to see estheticians at work.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/shutterstock_332817413-e1508342679574.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.phagans.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/shutterstock_332817413-e1508342679574.jpg" alt="woman getting a facial from an esthetician" width="500" height="334" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1695" /></a></p>
<h2>Where do Estheticians Work?</h2>
<p>Usually when people are considering beauty industry career possibilities, they want to know the types of places that they will be qualified to work. The great news is that there is lots of fun places that an esthetician can work.</p>
<ul>
<li>You can search for a job in a salon or spa.</li>
<li>As a certified esthetician, you could start your own skincare business.</li>
<li>Many hotels and resorts have spas where guests can go to get esthetic services like facials and waxing.</li>
<li>If you want to work in the education side of esthetics, you can get your instructor license and teach others.</li>
<li>Skincare product companies hire estheticians to educate salon staff and other professionals about their products.</li>
<li>You could become a freelance makeup artist for weddings and photoshoots.</li>
</ul>
<p>These are only a few examples of careers that certified estheticians can pursue but there are many, many more options.</p>
<h2>What’s the Difference Between Esthetics and Cosmetology</h2>
<p>In our <a href="http://www.phagans.com/courses/cosmetologyfull-course/">full cosmetology program</a>, you can learn everything that we teach in the <a href="http://www.phagans.com/courses/esthetics/">esthetics program</a> and more. Cosmetology encompasses all of esthetics in addition to hair design and nails. The big difference is that it takes <strong>2,300 hours to become a certified cosmetologist</strong> while it only takes <strong>600 hours to become a certified esthetician.</strong> So, if you don’t care to learn about hair and nails, you can build a career in esthetics much faster!</p>

<p>Well said Patty. </p>
<p>There are a couple key ingredients that go into running a beauty school. The first is people like Patty who are dedicated to helping students achieve their dreams. Our staff members at Phagans, Patty included, are all working to help students become beauty industry leaders because they love it. Seeing a student achieve great success and start living their dream is a greater reward for Phagans team members than any paycheck. They are an integral part of what makes Phagans School of Hair Design what it is.</p>
<p>The second key ingredient is our students. The hard work, determination, grit, and passion that our students display on a daily basis is inspiring. It&#8217;s the fuel that keeps the Phagans fire burning. We love our students and everything we do is centered on helping them reach their personal and professional goals.</p>
